#FavouriteBooks

So, I posted this on my Facebook page and thought to bring it here as well. As you well know, we’re in the month of May, a month where we celebrate children, so I thought we could relish childhood memories and talk about our favourite books as children.

So, what was the favourite book you loved reading as a child?

For me, it was Enid Blyton’s ‘The Enchanted Wood’ and I can still remember some of the adventures of Fanny, Bessie and co, not forgetting mrwhatzisname and the other enchanted, very funny figures of the faraway tree they meet up with.

The series were sort of like a Jack in the Beanstalk story with a twist; those peculiar characters in the place of giants and of course, the faraway tree that reached up to the clouds like the beanstalk. They were one of my faves as are the other Enid Blyton series like The Famous Five, Secret Seven, Malory Towers; Yep, those all-female boarding school stories that got me eagerly looking forward to a boarding school here in Nigeria. Needless to say that the boarding house experience here was waaay different from what was portrayed in her books *chuckles.

Then, my favourite African/Diverse children’s books were ‘The African Child’ by Camara Laye and ‘Born without a silver spoon’ by Eddie Iroh.

How about you?
